WATERLOO - Elaine J. Johnson, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Oct. 13, at her residence of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 23, 1928, in New Hampton, daughter of Louis and Josephine Anderson Douglas. She married Leland Johnson Oct. 20, 1951, in Waterloo. He died Dec. 17, 1989.

She graduated from New Hampton High School. She was a teacher in a one-room school house near Jericho for four years, a secretary at Rath Packing Co. for three years, and a homemaker.

Survived by a son, Ronald of Waterloo; three daughters, Carol (Knute) Bjorheim of Independence, Deb of Waterloo and Brenda (David) Hughes of Dallas; six grandchildren, Lisa (Andy) Bjorheim, Amy (Lenny) Ohl, Nick (Becky) Bjorheim, Savannah, Ethan and Alexandra Hughes; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Alexis Ohl, and Lacy and Nickolas Bjorheim.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy; five brothers, Stanley, Andrew, Maynard, Bernard and Lowell Douglas; and a sister, Irene Anderson.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, with burial in Garden of Memories. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Elaine enjoyed walking and being outdoors. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
