Bion Dale Guthrie, 81, went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2011. A memorial will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, on Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m., with a burial service following at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Guthrie was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Austin, Minn., to Dale and Ruth Guthrie.

He joined the Naval Sea Bees in January 1948, and served until 1952. After leaving the military, he married Barbara J. Creighton in lowa.

Surviving siblings include Darlene Peterson, Marion Poppe and Elaine Rennert. He leaves behind a wife, Barbara J. Guthrie; three sons, Mitchell, Monty and Mickey; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennie, Ryan, Miles, Jaycee, Wyatt and Waylon; and three great-grandchildren, Destiny, Jalina and Wesson.

He was a friend to everyone he met, and knew how to make people laugh and put a smile on their face. He was very loved and will be truly missed.
