WATERLOO - Melvin E. "Mel" Meyerhoff, 87, of Waterloo, formerly of Washburn, died Sunday, Oct. 2, at Community Nursing Home, Clarksville, of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Waterloo, son of Louis W. and Etta Timmerman Meyerhoff. He married Mildred "Tiny" Cook on Dec. 3, 1953, at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. She died April 10, 2007.

Mr. Meyerhoff graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1942, then enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with Merrills Marauders, stationed in Burma, China and India. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 35 years of service.

Survived by two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Ellie Struttman; and his brothers and sisters.

Graveside Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.
