WATERLOO - Samuel Charles Inks, 62, of Waterloo, died Friday, Sept. 30, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born June 10, 1949, in Iowa Falls, son of John and Doris Lawson Inks. He married Connie Ehlert June 20, 1987, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumner.

He graduated from South Tama County High School in 1968, received an undergraduate degree from Upper Iowa University, an MBA from University of Northern Iowa, and attended UNI for a master's degree in manufacturing management. Mr. Inks worked at John Deere Waterloo Works, retiring in 2001 as supervisor with Drive Train Division.

Survived by his wife; a sister, Sue (Hank) Behrens of Byron, Ill.; a half brother, Kevin Novak of Des Moines; and his mother-in-law, Ellen Ehlert of Sumner.

Preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, John Jr.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sumner. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa.

Sam was notorious at Deere for turning departments around and making them successful. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed family, friends, being with people, hunting, fishing, power boats, water sports, motorcycles and drag racing. He was a private pilot, owned a Grumman Tiger airplane that he loved to fly.
