Richard W. Brecunier, died Sept. 5, at the age of 90, in Thousand Oaks, Calif. A family memorial service was held in California on Sept. 7.

Born in Waterloo on March 29, 1921, he was the son of Raymond and Ruth Brecunier. He attended West High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce at the University of Iowa in 1942.

In 1943 he married Dorothy Miller of Cedar Rapids. After serving in the U.S. Army for three years, Mr. Brecunier was employed by Rath Packing Co. for the next 20 years in their sales and credit departments.

From 1967 through 1986, Mr. Brecunier was employed by the Waterloo Daily Courier, serving as business manager. He received his Master's Degree in 1969 from State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls. He was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Waterloo. Mr. Brecunier retired from the Waterloo Daily Courier in 1986. He and Dorothy moved to California in 2004.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy, and his four children, Rick, Ann, John and Chuck; seven grandchildren, Leah Dunn, Joshua Brecunier, Christine Brecunier, Michelle Brecunier, Ellie Brecunier, Holly Brecunier and Wyatt Brecunier; and three great-grandchildren.

A burial service was held at the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery on Sept. 14. Mr. Brecunier was preceded in death by his brother Jim. Memorials may be directed to the Community Foundation of Northern Iowa.
