WATERLOO - Mardean Blocker, 74, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Sept. 11, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Nov. 23, 1936, in Benton County, daughter of Donald and Lillian Bauer Burkhart. She married Harold Blocker on Aug. 17, 1957, in La Porte City.

Mrs. Blocker graduated from Garrison High School, Garrison, in 1954, and earned her registered nurse degree from Allen School of Nursing in 1957. She worked at Covenant Medical Center from 1961 to 2002 as a registered nurse. In 1959 she worked at Junction City Hospital, Junction City, Kan.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Deborah Carthan of Park Forest, Ill.; two sons, James of Fort Dodge and Robert of Woodbury, Minn.; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris (Linus) Winter of Mount Auburn and Karen McGuire of Arlington Heights, Ill.

Preceded in death by a son-in-law, Earnest Carthan; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Blocker

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Waterloo First United Methodist Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed Allen School of Nursing Scholarship Fund.
