Thomas G. Ament, 79, of Gilbertville, formerly of Dyersville and Worthington, died Monday, Sept. 12, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, from complications of COPD.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. and an American Legion/V.F.W. service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in St. Paul Cemetery, Worthington. Officiating will be te Rev. Henry Huber.

Tom was born Aug. 9, 1932, son of Harold and Loretta (Huber) Ament. He married Joan Geistkemper on Aug. 1, 1955, in Dyersville. Tom was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, a collector of John Deere farm toys and enjoyed supporting his grandchildrens' activities and events. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; four children, Steve (Donna) of Bellevue, Neb., Wayne (Diane) of Ames, Denise Moore of North Liberty and Tim (Patsy) of Gilbertville; 10 grandchildren; and three sisters Verna (Alfred) Geistkemper of Savanna, Ill., Norma (David) Simmons of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Lois Ament of Fullerton, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
