WATERLOO - Margaret "Peg" Leeper Nelson, 93, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, at home of natural causes.

She was born April 27, 1918, in Waterloo, daughter of Leo and Maud Walz Leeper. She married Dr. Myron E. "Buzz" Nelson Nov. 14, 1942, in San Diego. He died July 12, 1984.

She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1936 and received a bachelor's degree in sociology from University of Iowa. She was named Miss Iowa, "Queen of the Iowa Redheads" in 1939. Mrs. Nelson was an industrial counselor at Consolidated-Vultee in Santa Ana. She worked in the Black Hawk County Courthouse and in the court system for 14 years as a child welfare worker, adoption specialist, and juvenile probation officer. She helped start the Black Hawk County Child Care Center, where she also taught for a year. She was a licensed antique dealer and a member of the Waterloo Board of Realtors. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, where she was a deacon and elder. She was president and actively involved in the La Sertoma Club, Kingsley Elementary School Parent Teacher Association, Cedar Valley Historical Society, Dental Wives Association, Panhellenic and the UpDowntowners, Noble Dame of the Waterloo Elklets and Alumni of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She also was a member of Friends of the Center, University of Iowa Alumni, and was a Girl and Boy Scout Troop Leader.

Survived by a daughter, Jana of Cedar Falls; a son, Gregory of Palo Alto, Calif.; two grandsons, Michael Nelson of Cedar Falls and Kris Hack of Waterloo; and two great-granddaughters, Jaylen and Nevaeh.

Preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert; and a sister, Dorothy Lou in infancy.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. Pubic visitation from 4 to 7 p.m Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church and Quakerdale.
