WATERLOO - Jim O. Tippery, 86, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 1, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Modale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tippery. He married Patricia Welch in 1975, in Waterloo.

He graduated from Modale High School. Mr. Tippery was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marines and was a purple heart recipient. He owned and operated Tippery Mechanical Contracting for 23 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Michael of Sarasota, Fla., and Mark (Chris) of Chicago; a stepson, John "J.P." Welch of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Ryan Tippery of Chicago, Kristy Tippery of New Mexico, Ryan Welch and Nicole Tribelhorn, both of Loveland, Colo., and Cole Tippery of Chicago; and two great-grandchildren, Raquel and Max Roybal of Loveland, Colo.

Preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Welch; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
