ELAND, WELCH, BOGUE

CEDAR FALLS - Ivan L. Eland, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

He was born April 2, 1919, in Mediapolis, son of Robert and Jenny Welch Eland. He married Betty J. Bogue June 12, 1955, in State Center. She died Feb. 17, 2011.

Mr. Eland served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and master's degree from University of Colorado, Boulder, with graduate work at New York University, University of Nebraska and University of Kentucky. He worked with the National Safety Council in Chicago and then was employed with the University of Northern Iowa for 29 years, retiring in 1989 as director of safety education. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

Survived by a son, Ivan R. of Washington, D.C.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and J. Kermit; and three sisters, Ella, Roberta and Thelma.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Service, and also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Betty Eland Scholarship Fund with the P.E.O. International Foundation (administered by P.E.O. Chapter OV in Cedar Falls).
