WATERLOO - Marcellus Richard Andrews, 19, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Aug. 21, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; his death was ruled a homicide.

He was born May 9, 1992, in Waterloo, son of Michael James Alexander Sr. and Velma Marie Andrews.

He attended Waterloo East High School and graduated from Cleveland Job Corps in 2010. He was a flag stepper for Union Baptist Church drill team.

Survived by his mother of Waterloo; his father of Sacramento, Calif.; his grandparents, Joe and Blanche Andrews, and Robert Lee Alexander, all of Waterloo; two sisters, Leeza and Nichella, both of Waterloo; a brother, Michael Alexander of Waterloo; a stepsister, Laika Burt of Waterloo; and two stepbrothers, Lance Burt of Waterloo and Damaris Burt Sr. of Sacramento.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, Waterloo, with cremation to follow. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, and an hour before services Saturday at the church. Sanders Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 2525 Idaho St., Waterloo, where they will be receiving friends.

Marcellus was a person who would go out of his way to help family, friends. Every time you see him you see a smile on his face. The joys in Marcellus' life were designing clothes, hanging out with friends, performing with the drill team and singing everywhere he goes. He enjoyed life.
