[Waterloo Courier, Sunday, August 14, 2011]

Susan Jayne Proctor Willetts of Inverness, Calif., died Saturday, Feb. 5, at home from complications associated with scleroderma.

She was born Feb. 14, 1956, daughter of Fred and Jane Proctor in Waterloo. She attended school in Waterloo and graduated from West High School in 1974. She attended UNI 1974-76 before graduating from Allen School of Nursing in 1978. Shortly thereafter she moved to the west coast where she worked in primary care and rehabilitation in Portland, Ore. When she moved to San Francisco she worked in Hospice nursing, caring for many AIDS patients.

In 1992 Susan met her husband, Peter, while on vacation in Australia. Together they returned to the San Francisco area and then returned to New Zealand. After three years they moved to Inverness. Susan was diagnosed with scleroderma in 1999. She was a heroine to many with her courageous battle with such an insidious disease.

Susan was married to Peter Willetts July 22, 2000, in Nampa, Idaho.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, Jane Proctor of Waterloo; her sister, Kathryn Jensen of Nampa, Idaho; her brother, Steven (Jan) Nate and Kelsey of Pocatello, Idaho; her brother, John (Pilar) Allan and Paola of Doha, Qatar; Peter's three children, Jeanna, Justin, Michelle and spouses and their six children.

Susan was the "best friend" to many and is sorely missed by all. May Susan's tenuous physical form now rest in peace while her spirit is free to soar to greater heights. Look up at the night sky for Susan. She now looks upon us as a shining light with her love and lust for life.

Services were held in Inverness and in Christ-church, New Zealand. Cremation Society of Northern California assisted the family.

Preceded in death by her father, Fred, and an infant sister.

There will be a time to celebrate Susan's life and to greet the family on Friday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 614 Randolph, Waterloo.

Memorials to a charity of your choice.
