LA PORTE CITY - Donald M. "Rosey" Johannsen, 84, of La Porte City, died Sunday Aug. 7, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 10, 1926, in La Porte City, son of Max J.H. and Mary Rosa Weisert Johannsen. He married Betty Oberhauser on April 11, 1951, in La Porte City.

Mr. Johannsen worked at John Deere Tractor Works, Waterloo, as a shipping clerk, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer during World War II. He was a scoutmaster, lifetime member of the La Porte City American Legion USS San Diego Post No. 207 and member of La Porte City Lions Club.

Survived by his wife; a son, Kent (Mary) of La Porte City; three daughters, Susan Robinson of Washington, D.C., Becci Reedus of Cedar Rapids and Lisa Johannsen of Rochester Hills, Mich.; four grandchildren, Ben, Casey and Dane Reedus and Shane Johannsen; and a sister, Helen (Louie) Reeves of Moline, Ill.

Preceded in death by two daughters, Dana and Kathleen Johannsen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the LPC American Legion USS San Diego Post No. 207 and VFW Post 3983. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church. La Porte City Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family, in lieu of flowers.

Rosey enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and visiting family.
