WATERLOO - Arthur Gene Cherry, 62, of Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, died Sunday, July 31, at Covenant Medical Center of a heart attack.

He was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Waterloo, son of LaVerne Stewart and Lee Ezra Cherry Jr. He married Cheryl Ross, and they later divorced. He then married Lynet Holmes, and they later divorced.

Mr. Cherry attended Waterloo East High School and had worked various jobs in Waterloo and Lincoln, Neb., before becoming disabled.

Survived by five sons, Arthur Jr., Noya, LaMar and Tayvon, all of Waterloo, and Shelton of Port Arthur, Texas; three daughters, Angela (Kenny) Germany of Los Angeles, Carmen Pleasant of Las Vegas and Nashonda Banks of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Aundra Johnson of Houston and Lee Cherry III of Gadsden, Ala.; and two sisters, Gwen Cherry of Waterloo and Arlene Kyle of Tucson, Ariz.

Preceded in death by a son, Christopher; a brother, Kenneth "Turk"; and a sister, Charlotte Cherry Carson.

Memorial Services 5 p.m. Friday at Sanders Funeral Service. His body was cremated.
