Ida Hartman, Widow
Of J. C., Dies at 98

Mrs. Ida Mae Hartman, widow of former Waterloo Daily Courier Editor and Publisher John C. Hartman, died at 4 a.m. Monday in Allen Memorial Hospital at the age of 98.

Primary cause of death was listed as an infection in her left leg. She had been a patient at the hospital since December 14.

Mrs. Hartman was born Ida Mae Hummel on May 23, 1860, in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob P. and Sarah M. Hummel.

She came to Iowa and Waterloo at the age of 10 and had been a reident here ever since. Her home address was 2425 W. 4th St.

She was a life-long member of the First Methodist Church, the Church Women's Society, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the Pythian Sisters.

She was married to John C. Hartman November 8, 1886, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death January 3, 1941. The couple had no children.

Survivors include three nieces and two nephews, Mrs. Mildred Richmond of Champaign, Illinois; Mrs. Bessie Jenkins of 405 E. 5th St.; Mrs. H. W. Sigworth, 310 Maryland Ave.; Lawrence Hummel of Chicago, Illinois, and Harry Hummel of 2209 W. 4th St.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Kistner Funeral Home.
