WATERLOO - Eugene "Gene" Tyler, 76, of Waterloo, died at his home Thursday, June 30.

He was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Davenport, son of Carl and Ruby Ehrick Tyler. He married Nellie L. Bernatzki on June 14, 1952, in Manchester.

Mr. Tyler was an inspector at John Deere, retired after 31 years. He had also worked at Iowa Central Railroad, drove school buses for Waterloo schools, Blessed Sacrament School, and Vinton School for the Blind. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea and was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Debbie (Russel) Pint and Lorella (Gary) Nagle, both of Waterloo, Julie (Jim) Uecker of Fredrick, Md., and Brenda (Tim) Schelle of Weaver; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter Jeannie Louise Tyler; and four brothers, Lester "Connie," Carl "Bubs," Vaughn "Daylen" and Gerald "Jerry."

Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.
