Kari Leigh Posekany, 28, of Cedar Falls, died of pulmonary hypertension on Thursday, January 1, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

She was born November 20, 1980 in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Dean and Duranda (Mellinger) Hansen.

Kari married Chris Posekany on January 18, 2001 in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a 1999 graduate of Oelwein High School and received her Masters Degree in Business from Kaplan University, Cedar Falls, in 2006. Kari was an Assistant Manager for McDonalds for several years and had been working as an Optical Assistant at Walmart in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include her husband, Chris Posekany, of Cedar Falls; her children, Christopher, Alexander, Madison and Hannah Posekany, all at home; her parents, Dean and Duranda Hansen, of Oelwein, Iowa; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Mellinger, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Tom (Kara) Hansen of Longmont, Colorado and Michael Hansen of Waterloo; six sisters, DeAnn (Fritz) Michels of Hazelton, Iowa, Debbie Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amy Feehrer of Oelwein, Heather (Eric) Hansen of Hazelton, Jeni (Robert) White of Cedar Falls and Heidi Hansen of Waterloo; her mother and father-in-law, Bruce and Charlene Posekany, of Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law, Sarah Posekany, of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews.

Kari was preceded in death by her sister, Sherry Hansen; maternal grandfather, George Mellinger; maternal grandparents, Martha and Tom Russell, and paternal grandparents, Paul and Helen Hansen.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday, January 5, 2009, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Waterloo with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 2—6:00 pm Sunday, January 4, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 4:00 pm Scripture Service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour before service at the church. A memorial fund will be established.
