WATERLOO - Thomas Gordon Flaherty, 93, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 26, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Waterloo, son of Thomas E. and Lucy Flaherty. He married Marguerite R. Briden in 1938.

Mr. Flaherty worked for the WCF&N (later the Illinois Central) Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1978.

Survived by two sons, Michael J. (Louann) and Thomas L. (Marcia); seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (David) Townsend, David (Carolyn) Flaherty, Mary (Steve) Breitbach, Beth (Carlos) Walker, Todd (Petra) Flaherty, Ryan (Lori) Flaherty and Thomas L. (Becca) Flaherty II; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Lowell.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Friendship Village on Park Lane. Celebration of life services 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Ansborough and Ridgeway Avenues.

Tom and Marguerite loved to travel and enjoy the outdoors. They visited most of the lower 48 states, as well as Canada and Alaska. They lived for many years at Friendship Village where they had many friends.
