WATERLOO - Dennis R. Dallenbach, 64, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, June 18, from complications from Lou Gehrig disease (ALS).

He was born April 21, 1947, in Oelwein, son of Raymond Gerald and Anna Frances Fox Dallenbach. He married Jane A. Distler on Jan. 10, 1970, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Dallenbach served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was an inspector with John Deere for 33 years, retiring in 1998. He then worked for the Waterloo Schools First Student as a bus driver for 10 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Tim (Tiffany) Dallenbach of Waterloo and Jason (Billie Jo) Azbill of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Sharon (Brian) Thorp of Waterloo and Julie (Wayne) Lightly of Austin, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah, Cameron, Jake, Joshua, Zoe, Tori, Zach, Madison, Sam, Jason Jr. and Brock; two brothers, Tom (Nancy) and Kevin (Linda), both of Waterloo; and five sisters, Judy (Wayne) VanNatta of Waterloo, Diane Ruen of Kalona, Karen (John) Eisentrager of Lakeville, Minn., Deb (Monte) Erickson of Pomeroy and Mary (Fran) Patterson of Jolley.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Howard Ruen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.
