CEDAR FALLS - Charles E. Strattan, 87, of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, June 14.

He was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Omaha, Neb., son of Charles and Bessie Gibbons Strattan. He married Mary Ehm on Feb. 10, 1961, in Omaha.

Mr. Strattan graduated from Central High School, Omaha, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps 408th Bombardment Squadron, 22nd Bombardment Group, Fifth Air Force, flying B-24 Liberator Bombers in the Pacific theater of operations, during World War II. Before retiring in 1990, he was a salesman for the U.S. Checkbook Co. for 45 years.

Survived by his wife; a son, Michael (Kathleen) of Urbandale; a daughter, Laura (Matt) Carpenter of Rochester, Mich.; three grandchildren, Emily Strattan, Michael and Andrew Carpenter; and two stepgrandchildren, Austin and Spencer Carpenter.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen; and a sister, Jean Nomland.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
