CEDAR FALLS - Sharon Kay Burk, 63, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Oelwein, died at her home Tuesday, May 17, from ovarian cancer.

She was born Dec. 5, 1947, in Dubuque, daughter of Victor Eugene and Karoll Rowena Wolfe Williams. She married James R. Wetherbee in September 1965 and later divorced. On July 2, 1983, she and Ron Burk were married at First Baptist Church, Oelwein.

For many years Mrs. Burk worked behind the scenes and was one of the voices heard on the air at KOEL-FM Country Radio. She became a Realtor in 1985, and was an associate with Trapp Realtors, Cedar Falls, where she remained until she retired in 2005. She was a member of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Board of Realtors, Blackhawk Republican Women, Trailblazers Off-Road Club and the Cedar Falls Sertoma Club.

Survived by her husband; her mother of Oelwein; three daughters, Shelly Lynn (Scott) Dempsey of Oelwein, Kristin (Jim) Schaefer of Waterloo, and Angie (Paul) Stamps of Festus, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Burk of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren, Bree (Adam) McCann, Aleah (Jon) Hempel, Joe (Amber) Smith, Chantel Dempsey, Rachael, Jack and Claire Schaefer, Kelly, Kari, John, Mari and Ruth Burk, and Zachary, Allysa and Samantha Stamps; seven great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Evan and Nolan McCann, Dean, Bryson, and Anna Kay Hempel, and Sebastian Abernathey; a brother, D. Craig (Linda) Williams of Rowan; two sisters, Vicki Lynn (Keith) Jarchow of Oelwein and Kathleen Sue (Dale) Walker of Wichita, Kan.

Preceded in death by her father; a stepson, Byron Burk; and a brother, Terry John Williams.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedarloo Church of Christ, Cedar Falls, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials will be directed by the family to benefit Cedar Valley Hospice and Cancer Treatment.

Sharon was baptized into Christ April 10, 1961. She lived in the Waterloo area and was a member of the Cedarloo Church of Christ from 1983 to the present. Sharon served as Sunday School superintendent and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church, Oelwein. She taught Sunday School and served on the Fellowship Committee at Cedarloo. Sharon enjoyed many hobbies: flower and lawn gardening, bird watching, travel, fishing and camping, trail riding, decorating and card playing. Her favorite things were to take her many grandchildren on outings and vacations, and organizing family gatherings for the holidays.
