EVANSDALE - Raymond E. DuCharme Jr., 69, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Evansdale, died Monday, April 25, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, from complications of systemic scleroderma.

He was born March 31, 1942, in Waterloo, son of Raymond and Inez Van Erem DuCharme. He married Erma Cousins on July 7, 1962, in Independence. She died April 29, 2003. He married Sherry Overkamp Knipp on Aug. 5, 2006, in Waterloo.

Mr. Ducharme attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from Columbus High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked on the assembly line at John Deere Tractor Manufacturing Co. for 33 years. He was past chief of police for Elk Run Heights and was a deputy for the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Evansdale AMVETS.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Robert W. (Debbie) of Vinton, Richard L. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Randall J. of Waterloo; five stepsons, Ken, Richard (Shannon), David (Karen), Chris and Joe (Jen) Knipp, all of Seattle; two stepdaughters, Mary (Ron) Hall of Eveleth, Minn., and Amy (Tim) Dike of Seattle; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Michael (Lynn) of Wichita, Kan., and Thomas of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and flag folding by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5 p.m. 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Queen of Peace or Blessed Sacrament Catholic churches, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
