Kevin Kyhl, age 54, of Parkersburg, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at his home in rural Parkersburg, from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Kevin Christian Kyhl, age 54, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Vernon H. and Alice (Manning) Kyhl on April 8, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1970. Kevin served in the United States Army in Germany from 1971-1974. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and Colorado State University.

Kevin was united in marriage with Sarah Shaw on August 8, 1981, in Loveland, Colorado. They made their home in Fort Collins, Colorado. Kevin developed a silk screening process and sold art work throughout the country in the 1980s and '90s. In 1995 they moved back to the family farm where he owned and operated Kyhlwood tree farm. In his words to his customers he said, "I hope you all have had as much fun making something of the wood as I did logging, cutting or gathering it all, whether it was cruising the woods or scouting all the mills, it was a good time. So now for my next big adventure…I don't even have to pack a thing. Adios Amigos, it was fun."

Kevin enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado and also liked hunting deer and pheasant. Every summer Kevin enjoyed a fishing trip to Canada with his son, brother and nephews. Through the years he enjoyed taking many trips to Alaska with Sarah and his family and they also traveled together to Europe a few times.

Kevin died Friday, March 16, 2007, at his home in rural Parkersburg, from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, on July 29, 2005; his mother and father, Alice and Vernon Kyhl; one brother, Curt Kyhl; and one sister, Connie Amosson.

Kevin is survived by three daughters, Trista Kyhl of LeMars, Iowa, Alissa Kyhl of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jenna Kyhl at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois; one son, Casey Kyhl at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Wisconsin; one brother, Kenny Kyhl of Columbia, California; one sister, Becky Kyhl of Mason City, Iowa; and a special friend, Robbye Van Cleave of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Parkersburg United Methodist Church, with burial in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, both in Parkersburg.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, (319) 346-1534, and one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Family of ALS Association.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is in charge of arrangements.
