WATERLOO - Dorothy J. Friedman, 91, of Waterloo, died Friday, April 15, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Templeton, daughter of John and Dorothea Stangl Berger. She married Merle J. Friedman June 23, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton.

She graduated and was valedictorian from Sacred Heart High School in Templeton and was a secretary for a number of years with Joyce Lumber Co. After her marriage was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was a hospital volunteer.

Survived by her husband; four sons, John of Santa Clara, Calif., Dr. Thomas (Renea) of Waterloo, Michael (Donna) of Boulder, Colo., and James (Mary) of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Orval Berger of Clinton.

Preceded in death by two sisters in infancy, Mildred and Mary Lou; and a brother in infancy, Glenn.

Dorothy was very dedicated to her four sons. After they left home she missed them very much and wrote them a letter nearly every week until the latter years.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
