WATERLOO - Helen P. "Lennie" Petersen, 85, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, April 12, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center from complications of a stroke.

She was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of Harold R. and Elizabeth E. Bell Pearce. She married Robert J. Petersen on Aug. 2, 1950, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He died July 4, 1997.

Mrs. Petersen graduated from high school in Vancouver. She was a professional ballerina and dancer and toured the world as part of the "Ted Taft and His Debutantes" dance act. Later she worked at John Deere Credit Union in the VISA department, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish of Waterloo and was past president of the Junior League of Waterloo, where she held various positions from 1963-72.

Survived by a son, Kip of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Melissa Saylor of Marion; her former daughter-in-law, Darla Petersen of Woodland Park, Colo.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Schoepske, Jamie L. Petersen and Trevor J. Petersen; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua and Lucas Schoepske; a sister, Irene Boys of Bellingham, Wash.; and a brother, Bill Pearce of Vancouver.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Gwen Gilbertson and Peggy Anderson.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Chapel in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with burial in the cemetery. Visitation for an hour before services at the chapel. Her body has been cremated. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
