WATERLOO - Delbert Orr, 79, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, April 6, of cancer.

He was born July 6, 1931, in Waterloo, son of Major D. and Pansy L. White Orr. He married Edna Bronner on May 3, 1958, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mr. Orr graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1949, and had worked in the office at Rath Packing Co. for 20 years before being transferred to the plant as a forklift mechanic. He retired in 1984 after 34 years. He also bought cars at auction to repair and sell. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Waterloo Police Auxiliary for 14 years, lifetime member of the VFW Post 1623, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Masonic Lodge 105.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Sharon (Rick) Even of Waterloo and Denise (Greg) Sadler of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Susan Mayhue, Heather (Ryan) Richard, Derrick Even and Bradley Even; three great-grandchildren, Austin Bertch, Taylor Mayhue and Reagan Richard; a great-great-granddaughter, Aleyah Bertch; and a sister, Ruth Rooff of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Larry.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with full military rites by VFW Post 1623, American Legion Post 138 and Iowa National Guard. Committal of ashes at a later date in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
