WATERLOO - Harald John Brenna, 87, of Rosewood Estates, died there Saturday, April 2.

He was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Adams, Minn., son of Oscar Cornelius and Ellen Aasine Gunderson Brenna. He married M. Maxine Driscol on May 16, 1953, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Brenna was employed at Rath Packing Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Coast Guard.

Survived by three daughters, Elaine M. (Steven) Sturtz of Cedar Falls, Linda L. (Thomas) Cole of Des Moines and Susan R. (Timothy) Flynn of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Corah M. (Lance) Webber, Johnathan S. Sturtz, Adam T., Brenna R. and Lindsey R. Cole, and Megan E., Rachel M. and Matthew H. Flynn; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah K.E. and Isabella S. Webber, and Lukas T. Smock; and two sisters, Lois G. (the Rev. Leo) Bjorlie of Northfield, Minn., and Esther J. Burmeister of Harmony, Minn.

Preceded in death by a brother, Oscar E.; and a sister, Ruth H. Hagen.

Harald was a patient and quiet man, who enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He loved sports and was a talented athlete.

He served God, country, family, and his fellow man. He was honored to serve as a Sunday school teacher. We are thankful to have experienced a long life with our special father.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Valley Community Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
