WATERLOO - Victor F. Olsen, 88, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 30, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Westgate, son of Jens and Marie Potratz Olsen. He married Bonnie Lund April 8, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He attended school in Westgate and Sumner and received a bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. He served aboard the submarine chaser USS SC1032 for the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Olsen was a federal game manager for Iowa State Conservation Commission at Ingham-High Lake in Wallingford and a manager of the green house for the Science Department at the State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls. He retired as an assistant superintendent with the Waterloo Park Commission in 1985 and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Survived by his wife; a brother, Jim (Elva) of Medford, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Rita (Daryl) Englehardt of Sun City West, Ariz., and Dorothy of Cedar Falls; and a brother-in-law, Louis (Brooks) Raether of St. Louis.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Miriam Hatch, Myrtle (Carl) Bruihler and Geraldine Surly; a brother, Robert; a brother-in-law, Carl (Doris) Lund; two sisters-in-law, Joyce (Ken) Shumaker and Dorothy Raether; and his favorite dog, Oden.

Vic loved hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening. He was especially proud of his gardens being completely weed free. He enjoyed people, visiting shut-in friends when possible, his pets and especially new pickup trucks.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138.
