[Waterloo Courier, Sunday, March 27, 2011]

Word has been received of the passing of Addison Oliver Fredericks of West Des Moines, formerly of Waterloo, on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, from sudden cardiac arrest. Services were conducted on Feb. 23 by Pastor Robert Hoefler of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with assistance by Deacon Bill Richer.

Addison, 66, was born in New York, N.Y., to Josephine and Douglas Fredericks. He moved to Iowa as a child and lived most of his life in Waterloo. On Feb. 6, 1965, Addison married Mary Jo McWilliams, who was the love of his life.

Mr. Fredericks was a designer at John Deere Product Engineering in Cedar Falls for 35 years before retiring in 2001. He loved his job and his friends and continued to keep in touch throughout his retirement years, getting together with his John Deere "lunch bunch" twice a year. After retiring he also worked part-time at a John Deere dealership - Great American Outdoor - for five years. He was an avid collector of John Deere banks and Beatles memorabilia, among other things.

He was a devoted, generous and remarkable husband and father. Addison will be forever missed by his wife, Mary Jo of West Des Moines; daughter, Kelly of Des Moines; and son, Sean (McKinze), currently serving as Peace Corps volunteers in the Republic of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to a fund established in Addison's name at Veridian Credit Union. These funds will be distributed to some of Addison's favorite charitable causes.
