WATERLOO - Dennis A. Martin, 55, of Gardner, Kan., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, March 22, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

He was born March 5, 1956, in Waterloo, son of David P. and Juanita Schmitz Martin. He married Cindy Elam on July 12, 1997, in Shawnee, Kan.

Mr. Martin graduated from Columbus High School and earned an associate degree from JCCC. He was employed by Blue Valley District Schools for more than 20 years, most recently in the buildings and grounds department. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Dustin (Julie), Ryan (Tara) and Andrew (Erin), all of Gardner; two stepdaughters, Jen Elam of Mission, Kan., and Army 1st Lt. Jess (Mark) Handloff of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren, Trinity, Trenton and Trista Martin, Devon Martin and Jaida Martin; three sisters, Rita (Mike) Kelley and Nancy (Terry) Gray, both of Waterloo, and Karen (Dale) Dupuis of Garland, Texas; two brothers, David (Kathy) and Gary (Pam), both of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis loved NASCAR and lived for his family - he was everyone's favorite handyman and electrician. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Services 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner, with burial in Gardner Cemetery. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, with an 8 p.m. rosary.

Memorials may be directed to Gardner Relay For Life.
