INDEPENDENCE - Leonard J. Ronnebaum, 91, of Independence, died Tuesday, March 1, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, following a short illness.

He was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Baileyville, Kan., son of Joseph and Elizabeth Reinke Ronnebaum. He married Norene Helen Buessing in Baileyville.

Mr. Ronnebaum attended school in Kansas and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He farmed in Buchanan County and also was a machinist at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 31 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Independence.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Karol (James) Quiring of San Diego and Jeani (Bill) Eich of West Okoboji; a son, Morris (Candice) of Independence; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Virgil (Rosie) of Axtell, Kan., Joe of Olathe, Kan., Don (Rosie) of St. Marys, Kan., and Gerald (Beverly) of Topeka, Kan.

Preceded in death by a son, William; an infant daughter, Donna Marie; a brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Agatha Ronnebaum and Evelyn Ronnebaum.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at White Funeral Home, Independence, with a 3 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.
