WATERLOO - Larry David Miller, 67, of Waterloo, died suddenly while skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011.

He was born July 29, 1943, son of Ida (Moe) and Carroll Miller.

He graduated from West High 1961. He went to college and graduated from Grinnell College, Grinnell, and did graduate work at UNI.

He married Nancy Shields Aug. 13, 1966. She passed away June 24, 1991. Then on Aug. 8, 1992, he married Sharon (Gray) Renner.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Waterloo; daughters, Laura Miller (Daryl Dunigan) of Portland, Ore., and Martha Miller (Matt Hosch) of Hopkins, Minn.; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Osborne of Anna, Ohio; stepsons, Brian Renner of Leavenworth, Wash., and Jeff and Steve Renner of Cincinnati, Ohio; his five grandchildren, Nathan and Jacob Osborne, Jack Renner, and Kendall and Morgan Renner; his sisters, Opal Kough of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Becky Leisinger and Barbara Meyeraan, both of Waterloo; a brother, Neil (Marilyn) Miller of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Carroll Miller Jr.; and a sister, Inabelle Payne.

He was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church all his life and an associate member of South Park Community Church, Fairplay, Colo.

He was a science teacher, wrestling coach and counselor at Hoover School for a number of years. He then went to Expo and was the counselor there for several years until his retirement in June 1999. He received the Gold Star Award on May 27, 1993.

He was very active as a volunteer in the community and an active member of multiple organizations.

His favorite things to do were to ride his bicycle, ski and watch the NASCAR races. It meant so much to him that he rode his bicycle from Anacortes, Wash., to Yorktown, VA., in the summer of 2000.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and at the church for an hour before services on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Trinity American Lutheran Church or Hartman Reserve.
