WATERLOO - Robert "Bob" Victor Tegeler, 83, of Spearfish, S.D., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Fort Meade VA Medical Center, Fort Meade, S.D., from cancer.
He was born March 25, 1927, in Delaware County, son of Victor and Mathilda Meyer Tegele. He married Evelyn Tonn on May 22, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence.
Mr. Tegeler served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received a bachelor's degree in speech and hearing from Iowa State Teacher's College in 1957, and a master's degree in education from State College of Iowa in 1965. He was hired as the first speech therapist in Warren County in 1957. He then worked as a speech therapist for Black Hawk County until 1966, when he accepted the position as director of special education for the Area Education Agency IV in Sheldon, and later Sioux Center. In addition, he taught at Black Hills State, Spearfish, for many summers. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran, Spearfish.
Survived by his wife; two daughters, Kathleen (John) Fick of Grand Forks, N.D., and Sharon (Brad) Brandsrud of Watertown, S.D.; a son, Alan (Donna Peterson) of Hope, Maine; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul (Elaine) of Loveland, Colo.
Preceded in death by an infant brother; and a sister, Ruth Kortenkamp.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Spearfish, with inurnment at 10 a.m. March 7 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D. Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels & Crematory Service, Spearfish, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Northern Hills, 1440 N. Main St. Spearfish, SD 57783-1505; Good Shepherd Clinic, 1020 State St., Spearfish, SD 57783; or a charity of the donor's choosing.
