Infection in Blood

In Hardware Business There Since Year 1914

Hudson, la.—Dan H. Gutknecht, Hudson business man since 1914, died at 2 a.m. Monday at Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls, after a week's illness from a blood stream infection.

He was born Dec. 26, 1891, on a farm west of Hudson, the son of John and Anna Gutknecht. He was graduated from Hudson High school in 1909 and from Gates Business
College at Waterloo in 1910.

Mr. Gutknecht was a telegraph operator at Parkersburg for three years before entering the hardware business at Hudson with his father, and a brother, Harold, in the firm of Gutknecht Brothers.

He married Feme Farrar of Elkhorn, Wis., June 21, 1917.

Mr. Gutknecht enlisted in an ordnance detachment in 1918 during the world war and served at Philadelphia, Pa., for six months after the armistice was signed.

Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Marian and Frances; a son, Donald; his father, John Gutknecht, and his brother, Harold, all of Hudson; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Crouch, Cedar Rapids.

The body was taken to the Kearns Garden Chapel at Waterloo. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Brethren Church here, Rev. H. E. Buss, pastor, officiating. There will be a prayer service for the family at 1:30 at the home.
