WATERLOO — Freeman W. Moser Jr., 86, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Western Home Communities Windhaven, Cedar Falls.

He was born May 3, 1924, in Waterloo, son of Freeman W. and Velma M. Hickle Moser Sr. He married Florence E. Cutshall on June 30, 1951, in Waterloo. She died Dec. 18, 2003.

Mr. Moser graduated from Waterloo West High School and attended the University of Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and had owned and operated Freeman's Cafe for 45 years, retiring in 1987.

Survived by a son, Freeman W. III of Chicago; two daughters, Jill (Steve) Mathey of Cedar Rapids and Jan (Greg) Crespi of Dallas; five grandchildren, Mandy (Luke) Gebel of Woodbury, Minn., Tiffany Scally of Urbandale, Scott Crespi of Dallas, and Abigayle Moser and Freeman W. Moser IV, both of Chicago; a great-granddaughter, Amaya LaVae Gebel of Woodbury; and a sister, Beverly Campbell of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a sister, LaVae Moser.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Orange Township Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorial fund to be designated at a later date.
