CEDAR FALLS - Douglas E. "Doug" Markey, 77, of Cedar Falls, died at home Monday, Jan. 24.

He was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Boone, son of John J. and Hazel Ean Markey. He married Patricia A. "Pat" Day on Dec. 26, 1952, in Boone.

Mr. Markey was a 1951 graduate of Boone High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Western Electric, which later became AT&T and subsequently Alcatel Lucent, for 38 years, retiring in 1989.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Cheryl (Alan) Kozak of North Pole, Alaska, and Brenda Markey Yarlott of Daytona, Fla.; two sons, Steve of Denver and John (Jennifer) of Oelwein; eight grandchildren, Summer (Todd) Swarts of Cedar Falls, Mikel Markey of Brookings, S.D., KellyAnn Yarlott and Adam Yarlott, both of Ocala, Fla., Kris Kozak of North Pole, Kyle and Cody Markey, both of Denver, and Joseph Markey of Oelwein; two great-granddaughters, Jaden and Maya Swarts, both of Cedar Falls; and a niece, Sue (Lynn) Moklestad of Forest City.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marjorie Lee.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with burial in Boone at a later date. Public visitation for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Memorials may be directed to Beacon of Hope Hospice or charity of donor's choice.
