GREENE, IOWA - Grace Ann Olson, 91, died at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison in the caring comfort of Hospice of North Iowa on June 19, 2011.

Memorial services will be held 7 p.m., today, Wednesday, June 22, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First Street, Greene, with Rev. Gary Hatcher, St. Peter Lutheran Church presiding. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, at a later date. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the Funeral Chapel. Those wishing to express their sympathy may send memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene in Grace's memory.

Grace Ann Olson was born at Hudson, Iowa, in Black Hawk County, on March 24, 1920, a daughter of Emil and Lydia (McCurdy) Olson. Grace spent her childhood and early years in the Hudson and Reinbeck vicinities. She attended the Zaneta District School through the fifth grade, the Reinbeck Community High School until her family moved to Eagle Center, southwest of Hudson. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Eagle Center, in May 1938.

Grace was baptized and confirmed April 19, 1935, by the Rev. H.W. Seifkes at St. John's American Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Grace was united in marriage to Harold H. Nielsen of Cedar Falls Sept. 29, 1938, at St. John's American Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls by the Rev. Arthur Holm. They lived in Cedar Falls in the home they purchased until November 1942, when they moved to the farm west of Greene, in the Bristow-Aredale area where they farmed for 23 years before moving into their home in Greene in November 1965. Harold H. Nielsen passed away April 20, 1977. Grace was employed at Dralles Department Store for 25 years before her retirement in 1981.

She became a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene in 1943, where she had been a faithful and active member, serving on the church council, chair of the education board, and chair of the missionary committee for several years, she served on the altar guild and was active in the church women's organizations, serving on various committees and boards. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in Bristow chapter No. 506 in 1961. She enjoyed cooking and baking, socializing with family and friends, figuring crossword puzzles and scrapbooking.

Harold and Grace were parents of three daughters: Garnetta Ann (Phil) Snyder, Tripoli; Leanne Lydia (Robert) Butzlaff, Indio, Calif.; Juliene Kay (Martin) Bramer, Greene; proud grandparents of eight grandchildren: Stacey Ann Snyder, Dawn Marie Snyder, Allyson Kaye (Bruce) Mueller, Troy Linn Butzlaff, Trent Lee (Kathy) Butzlaff, Michael Lyn (Erica) Bramer, Jeffrey Harold (Dana) Bramer and Matthew Jon (Cricket) Bramer; 20 great grandchildren: Joel Conrad Butzlaff, Paige Deanne Butzlaff, Aimee Suzanne Butzlaff, Dustin James Bramer, Kyle Bramer, Erica Ann Newbrough, Austin Newbrough, Megan Newbrough, Grace Elizabeth Bramer, Ainsley Allison Bramer, Ryan Michael Bramer, Trent Andrew Butzlaff, Jared Michael Butzlaff, Sierra Marie Chapman, David Logan Chapman, Conner Blake Mueller, Cameron Charles Mueller, Cade Parker Mueller; Madelyn Jordan Bramer, Colin David Bramer; several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Leslie Olson, sisters, Viola Bedard and Isla Wellmann and son-in-law, Phil M. Snyder.
