INDEPENDENCE - Betty M. Huebner, 86, of Independence, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, March 8, at home, of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 9, 1923, on the family farm in Windsor Township, daughter of Leo and Olga Grafenberg Strudthoff. She married Wendell H. Huebner May 11, 1945, at 1st Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He died Nov. 7, 1997.

She graduated from Waterloo East High School. She served as parish secretary at First Lutheran until her retirement. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. She was recognized for 40 years of service as an associate of ministry by the ELCA in 2005. She led the prayer at monthly pot-lucks at Wildberry Apartments, a senior living facility where she lived. She also frequently led Bible studies for her circle.

Survived by: two daughters, Margaret Czuba of Independence and Barbara (Richard) Buskirk of Lakeland, Fla.; three granddaughters, Stephanie Buskirk of Polk City, Fla., Melanie Buskirk of Lakeland and Mary Kathryn Czuba of Independence; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie West of Polk City and Tryston Brown of Independence; and a sister, Joan (Gary) Volberding of Palatine, Ill.

Preceded in death by: a sister in infancy, Mary Kathryn Strudthoff; and two brothers, Stanley and Conrad Strudthoff.

Services: noon on Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, with private burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

She enjoyed embroidery, reading, personal visits and devotions, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
