WATERLOO - Lester A. Dawson, 78, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 14, at home of cancer.

He was born May 4, 1932, in Waterloo, son of Harold and Anna Buehner Dawson. He married Hazel E. Mowery Nov. 3, 1951, in Freemont, Neb. She died Sept. 25, 2008.

Mr. Dawson was a longtime union truck-driver and member of the Teamsters.

Survived by: two sons, Eugene A. of Waterloo and Thomas M. (Bev) of Iowa City; three daughters, Terry (Martin) Culpepper of Waterloo, Tina (David) Heyer of La Crescent, Minn., and Roxanne (Francis) Burns of Mason City; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Roberta) of Waterloo; and a sister, Virginia Wehr of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: three sons, James, John and Lester, all in infancy; two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, both in infancy; a brother, Richard; and two sisters, Dorothy Beasley and Arlene Scoggin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St., with a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
