CEDAR FALLS — Donald Dean Smith, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Valley Regional Medical Center, Brownsville, Texas, following a brief illness.

He was born April 25, 1927, in Eldora, son of Raymond and Ila Hoffa Smith. He married Marjorie Ann McKinley on Feb. 6, 1946, in Marshalltown. She preceded him in death.

He was a professional truck driver. Mr. Smith was a member of First United Methodist Church and Cedar Valley Evening Lions Club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survived by two daughters, Debora (Bob) Lee and Lynda (Duane) Svoboda, both of Cedar Falls; two sons, David (Diane) of Brooklyn and JD (Brenda) of Traer; two sisters, Helen Spurling of Ontario, Calif., and Dorothy Zesch of LeGrand; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Christie; a grandson, Matthew Christie; a sister, Winona Ogden; and a stepbrother, Sandy Clemens.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. Iowa Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends
