WATERLOO — Burdett R. Neal, 70, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 9, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born May 6, 1940, in Delhi, son of Wesley and Nellie Turner Neal. He married Janice Krueger on Dec. 25, 1961, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Greene.

Mr. Neal worked for John Deere at the Westfield site as a paint inspector, retiring in 1995. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge. He was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church, the American Legion and John Deere Credit Union board of directors from 1986-1998. He also was a former member Waterloo Elks Club and the Independence American Legion.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Scott (Deedee) of Minneapolis and Wesley (Judy Lytton) of Indianola; a daughter, Sheri (David) Neal Fischer of Tokyo; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Connell of Indianola; seven grandchildren, Toby (Marlene) Neal, Turner Neal, Ethan Neal, Andrea (Eric) Ooms, Haley Neal, Katrin Fischer and Jacob Fischer; three sisters, Grace Frommelt of Dubuque, Greta Thomas of Independence and Helen Warden of Delaware; two brothers, Harold (Lois) of Guttenberg and Walter (Rose) of Bellevue; and a sister-in-law, Lois Neal of Dubuque.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Howard; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Frommelt and Donald Thomas.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with military honors by American Legion Post 139 and VFW Post 1623. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wilson Cemetery, Independence. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.
