CEDAR FALLS — Marilyn Hoffer Smith, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Jan. 9, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

She was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Mount Angel, Ore., daughter of Lawrence and Besse Bolster Hoffer. She married Richard W. Smith on July 31, 1943, at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Ill. He died Nov. 11, 2000.

Mrs. Smith was a 1940 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and worked for Dr. A.E. Meswarb, and later in the Wagner Manufacturing accounting department and also Henderson's Furniture Store. She then worked in the human resource department and headed the accounting department at Porter's Camera Store, retiring after 23 years of service. She was a member of Chapter R, PEO; member and past president of both the Tuesday Club and Cedar Falls AMVETS Auxiliary; and member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she was active in the church's St. Vincent de Paul program.

Survived by: two sons, Michael J. (Kerstine) of Sartel, Minn., and David W. (Mary) of Allison; a daughter, Lore A. (Jeffrey) Mick of Waverly; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Lawrence (Marilyn) Hoffer of Freeport, Ill.; and two sisters, Sandra (Ronald) Power of Sun City West, Ariz., and Sharon (Jim) Kingsley of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: her parents; and three sisters, Gladys Irene, Wilmagene Hoffer and Madonna Mae McCormick.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
