WATERLOO - Alvin D. Miller, 76, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Jan. 2, of natural causes.

He was born March 12, 1934, in Stout, son of Seede and Lena Alphs Miller. He married Marilyn "Joan" Kelley on June 29, 1958, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She died Sept. 17, 2000

Mr. Miller graduated from Ackley High School and from the Waterloo Police Academy. He worked for the Waterloo Police Department from July 2, 1959, until July 2, 1986, in several departments, including motorcycle patrol for several years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Waterloo American Legion Post 138 and the Forty and Eight Club.

Survived by: three daughters, Kelly Miller of Waterloo, Colleen Bolton of Crystal Falls, Mich., and Edna (Randy) Lyman of Iowa Falls; four grandchildren, Becki (Brian) Peters, Nathan Bolton, Casey (Laura) Lyman and Josh Lyman; five great-grandchildren, Kylie Cutsforth, Corbin Peters, Grace Bolton, and Cheyenne and Braxtin Lyman; and three brothers, Art (Arlene) Miller of Oxford, Alford Miller of Mason City and Lester (Anna Mae) Miller of Ackley.

Preceded in death by: a son-in-law, William Bolton; and two brothers, Harold and Floyd.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heartland Vineyard Church, Cedar Falls, with military and police department honors. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home.
