HEINTZ, STURM, BOHR, BRADSHAW, SCHROEDER, SMITH

WASHBURN - John "Jack" Heintz, 74, of Washburn, died Thursday, Dec. 30 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Nov. 5, 1936 in Worthington, Minn., son of John A. and Gertrude Sturm Heintz. He married Jeanette Bohr Sept. 28, 1963 in Cresco.

He served in the Iowa Army National Guard for six years and worked at John Deere Tractor Manufacturing Co. for 35 ½ years, retiring in 1994. He served as deputy Grand Knight and Grand Knight of Council 700 with Waterloo Knights of Columbus. He was district deputy for District 10 in the early 1980s and for Belle Plaine area councils. Mr. Heintz served on executive board of State Knights of Columbus and held various other positions on that level. He volunteered hosting spelling bees, managing bingo nights and tootsie roll drives.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Joseph (Julie) of Polk City; three daughters, Marcia (Dale) Bradshaw of Lenoir, N.C., Marita Schroeder of Cedar Falls and Sue (Todd) Smith of Huxley; nine grandchildren, Lauren Bradshaw, Amanda Merritt, John Schroeder, Luke Schroeder, Katy Schroeder, Cassie Smith, Brooke Smith, Jalen Heintz and Jerica Heintz; three brothers, David (JoAnn) and James (Jackie), all of Minnesota, and Thomas of Georgia.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Full military rites conducted by Nugent-Demuth Post 714 of Gilbertville. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus Council 700.
