WATERLOO — Robert James Connell, 79, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 6, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Waterloo, son of William J. and Mary Steckmeyer Connell. He married Leona Keroff on July 1, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Connell was a graduate of Waterloo East High School in 1949. He was employed as a supervisor with Rath Packing Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He then was employed with Allen Hospital in the laundry and housekeeping for 12 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, North American Hunting Club, Iowa Bowhunters Association and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Robert (Kate) of Greeley, Colo., and Anthony "Tony" of Waterloo; three daughters, Debra Luloff of Cedarville, Ill., and Vicky (Tom) Wehrle and Lorraine Bundy, both of Evansdale; eight grandchildren, Angie (Bill) Rosemeiere, Jenny (Bud) Ashton, LeAnna Connell, Scott Connell, Andrew Wehrle, Bryan Wehrle, Jenna Bundy and Blake Connell; six great-grandchildren, Josh Luloff, Brady Rosemeiere, Zack Crabtree, Anna Crabtree, Alexandria Ashton and Shawnee Ashton; a brother, Donald (Theresa) of Waterloo, a brother-in-law, Duane (Sharon) Keroff of La Porte City; and two sister-in-laws, Viola Kingsbury of Minneapolis and Marlene Keroff of Anoka, Minn.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Ronald E.; and two brothers-in-law, Lowell Keroff and Jack Kingsbury.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour prior before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Bob was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, small game hunting and taking great pride in bow hunting for deer. He also enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as attending numerous extended family events.
