CEDAR FALLS — Marguerite H. "Peg" Smith, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 5, at Martin Health Care Center.

She was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Waterloo, daughter of Stanley and Florence Thompson Shane. She married Gerald L. "Jerry" Smith on July 4, 1944, in San Francisco. He died Jan. 5, 2009.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1937, attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) and Gates Business College. She was employed by Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, Western Pacific Railroad in San Francisco, National Transitads in Chicago and the Iowa State Employment Office in Waterloo. She was a homemaker for many years and was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and past president of the Women of the Church.

Survived by: a daughter, Cheri (Rod) Mountain of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sons, Douglas (Julie) of Cedar Rapids and Christopher (Jane) of Evansdale; six grandchildren, Cheli (Rick) Basham of Delaware, Ohio, Jerry (Misty) Mountain of Hilliard, Ohio, Eric Smith of Cedar Falls, Emily Smith of Cedar Rapids and Cody Smith and Abby Smith, both of Evansdale; and three great-grandchildren, Miquela Basham, Shane Mountain and Amara Smith.

Preceded in death by: an infant son.

Memorial services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories. Public visitation from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be given to Christian Crusaders Radio Ministry, or Peace Lutheran Church, Clayton, in lieu of flowers.
