WATERLOO - Carl L. Owens, 85, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 2, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Spencer, Ind., son of Lex and Violet Keene Owens. He married Phyllis Bonk Slaughter on Dec. 1971, in Burlington.

Mr. Owens graduated from Burlington High School and was employed for F.W. Means Janitorial Service. He also was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a sergeant during World War II in the Western Pacific. He later served as Airman First Class with the U.S. Air Force Reserves through Nov. 16, 1952.

Survived by: his wife; a stepdaughter, Terry Bruno of Waterloo; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a sister, Jeanne.

His body will be cremated with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Locke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
