WATERLOO - Margaret Ellen Burton Byers, 93, of Chula Vista, Calif., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 20, in Chula Vista.

She was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Waterloo, daughter of William and Madonna Burton. She married Robert E. Byers in 1939, in Union, Mo. He died in 1985.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in home economics education. She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and was a member of Chula Vista Presbyterian Church in California and First Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Survived by: three sons, Jeff of Temecula, Calif., Michael of Manchester Hills, Mich., and James of Fallbrook, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Ralph and Robert Burton; and four sisters, Minerva Riley, Jean Stuelke, Virginia Davey and Charlotte Hinson

Memorial services: 3 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church Fireside Room, Waterloo.
