WATERLOO - Matt Johnson, 52, of rural Melbourne, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born July 9, 1958, in Waterloo, son of Sidney and Harriet Kemmerer Johnson. He married Lynette Lorraine Magdaline Hoofnagle Ladewig Oct. 31, 2001. She died in 2009.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1976 and served in the U.S. Marines Corps. He was a bartender at Clark's Bar in Melbourne and the Corner Tap in Marshalltown. Mr. Johnson worked at Waterloo Wilbert Vault in Waterloo.

Survived by: two children, Lindsay Cooke of Waterloo and Travis (Sarah) Cooke; a sister, Debbie (Mike) Paine of Reinbeck; his stepfather, Herman Junior Thede of Reinbeck; two stepchildren, Nick (Emily) Ladewig of Marshalltown and Eric (Melanie) Ladewig of Villa Park, Ill.; a grandchild; and a stepgrandchild.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and a brother, David.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Marshalltown. There will be no visitation.
