[Waterloo Courier, Tuesday, November 16, 2010]

Deanna Dolci DiGiacomo, 73, of Waterloo, died Nov. 14, 2010, at Iowa City Hospitals, Iowa City, of natural causes. Dee was born in Sharon, Pa., on Oct. 29, 1937. She married Nicholas DiGiacomo in 1961; they relocated to Waterloo in 1963 with their young son, John, to begin their new family, which would grow to four children.

Dee’s effervescent personality was well suited for her 30-year career as a telephone operator, but her greatest love was always her family. The DiGiacomo home was well known as a warm and comfortable place to share a laugh and wonderful home-cooked meal. Dee is known for her culinary skills and would spend many a happy hour discussing recipes or the menu plans for a special family event.

Dee is preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Giovanni Dolci; her brothers, John Dolci and Leno Dolci; and her husband, Nicholas DiGiacomo.

She is survived by her four children, John Anthony of San Diego, Nicholas Anthony of Cedar Rapids, Dean Anthony of Waterloo and Daveen Lee of San Francisco, as well her three grandchildren, Brandine Danielle Strand, David Anthony DiGiacomo and Julia Fairchild DiGiacomo.

For all who knew Dee, she is best remembered as a fun, spirited woman, always ready to amuse you in her unique, spunky way. Her bright smile and warm heart were a gift of love and will be forever cherished. She will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to share in her life’s journey.

There will be a memorial Mass at St. Edward’s Church at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19. There will be a visitation with family at 10:30 a.m.
